HBV DNA Detection by PCR - Amniotic fluid is used to screen pregnant women who are positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) for vertical transmission of HBV to their babies. Vertical transmission is the transmission of a virus from a mother to her baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. The test is usually performed between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy.
