Uric Acid, 24 Hours Urine

This test is recommended:

• If you have symptoms of gout, such as joint pain, redness, and swelling

• If you are taking medications that may affect uric acid levels

The normal range for uric acid in urine is 250 to 750 mg per day. Abnormal results may indicate conditions such as gout, kidney stones, or kidney disease. However, abnormal results do not necessarily mean you have these conditions. Discuss your results with your doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

• You will be given a container to collect your urine sample.
• Collect all urine passed over a 24-hour period.
• Keep the sample refrigerated until you bring it to the laboratory.
• The laboratory will measure the uric acid levels in your urine sample.

• Avoid high-purine foods, such as organ meats, seafood, and beer, for at least 48 hours before the test.
• Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking that may affect uric acid levels.
• Drink plenty of fluids unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• Follow any additional instructions provided by your doctor.

• Serum Uric Acid Test: This blood test measures the levels of uric acid in your blood and is often done alongside the urine test for a more comprehensive evaluation.
