Urea Test - Urine 24H

This test measures the amount of urea in your urine over a 24-hour period.

• To assess kidney function
• To monitor kidney disease
• To diagnose metabolic disorders, such as urea cycle disorders
• To evaluate liver function and identify liver diseases

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have

• symptoms of kidney or liver disease, such as frequent urination, fatigue, or jaundice,
• risk factors for kidney or liver disease, such as high blood pressure or alcohol abuse,
• a known metabolic disorder that affects urea metabolism, or
• chronic conditions that require monitoring of kidney function, such as diabetes or hypertension.

Abnormal results may indicate kidney dysfunction, liver disease, dehydration, or metabolic disorders. High urea levels may suggest kidney or liver disease, dehydration, or certain metabolic disorders.

And low urea levels may indicate malnutrition or severe liver disease.

You will be provided with a special container to collect all your urine over 24 hours. This sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

• Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, as some may affect test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.
• Follow any dietary restrictions provided by your doctor, as certain foods and beverages can impact urea levels.
• Drink plenty of fluids during the collection period to ensure an accurate measurement of urea excretion.
