Tungsten Hair Test by ICPMS

This test measures the amount of tungsten in your hair sample. 

The Tungsten Hair Test by ICPMS is mainly done to detect long-term exposure to tungsten by measuring its concentration in hair, which reflects long-term exposure to this element. This test is also useful in identifying the cause of unexplained symptoms that may be associated with tungsten toxicity.

Your doctor may recommend this test if

• You have been exposed to tungsten through your work or environment.
• You have symptoms associated with tungsten toxicity such as fatigue, joint pain, and headaches. 
• You live near tungsten mines or industrial areas that use tungsten.
• You have been diagnosed with tungsten toxicity or related conditions, in order to assess treatment effectiveness. 

Elevated levels of tungsten may indicate excessive exposure to it, which can cause various health problems such as chronic fatigue syndrome and cognitive impairment. 

During this test, a small hair sample will be taken from your scalp near the nape of your neck. The hair will be cut close to the scalp and measured for tungsten concentration. The test is safe, non-invasive, and does not cause any discomfort.

No special preparation is required for this test. However, remember the following points:

• Avoid using hair products such as gels, sprays, or dyes before taking the test, as they may interfere with the results.

Other tests that may be ordered alongside the Tungsten Hair Test by ICPMS include blood and urine tests to measure tungsten levels in these samples. Your doctor may also recommend imaging tests such as X-rays or CT scans to examine organs that might have been affected by excessive tungsten exposure.
