Tin, Spot Urine Test

The Tin, Spot Urine test measures the concentration of tin in a urine sample.

The Tin, Spot Urine test may be done for various reasons, such as

• To screen for exposure to high levels of tin.
• To diagnose and monitor toxicity resulting from exposure to tin.
• To assess the effectiveness of treatments aimed at eliminating tin from your body.

Doctors may recommend this test if you are exhibiting symptoms such as:

• Nausea

• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal pain
• Fatigue

Individuals with high occupational or environmental exposure to tin may also undergo this test.

Abnormal results may indicate exposure to high levels of tin or other medical conditions. 

During the test, you will collect a 10-ml sample of your urine in a metal-free container to be sent for testing. The test itself is painless, but the use of a catheter or collection bag may be necessary for some individuals.

Before the test:

• Drink plenty of fluids to ensure an adequate urine sample.
• Avoid consuming food or drinks that may contain tin, such as canned foods or beverages.
• Avoid taking any medications that may affect your test results.
