Threonine Quantitative Plasma Test

This test measures the amount of threonine in your plasma.

• To identify metabolic disorders or inborn errors of metabolism that cause threonine metabolism to be altered • To monitor patients with known metabolic conditions • To assess nutritional status, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of dietary interventions

Your doctor may recommend this test if • you have suspected or confirmed metabolic disorders that affect threonine metabolism, or • you suffer from symptoms such as poor appetite, developmental delays, lethargy, seizures, or unexplained failure to thrive.

• Elevated levels of threonine might be due to liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, kidney dysfunction, or certain inherited metabolic diseases. • Decreased levels of threonine may be due to an inadequate intake of protein or a problem with amino acid transport or metabolism.

The technician will draw a small amount of blood from your arm, and the sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

• Fast for at least 8 hours before the test per your doctor's advice. • Inform your doctor if you have any medications or supplements that might interfere with the test or if you have any specific requirements.
