Sodium Body Fluid

This test measures the sodium levels in your body fluids to assess your electrolyte balance. Sodium is crucial for nerve signal transmission, muscle function, and maintaining fluid balance in your body.

• Diagnose and monitor electrolyte imbalances.
• Identify the causes of hypernatremia (high sodium) or hyponatremia (low sodium).
• Evaluate kidney function and hormonal disorders affecting sodium regulation.

This test is recommended to track:

• Symptoms of dehydration or overhydration
• Conditions like kidney disease or heart failure requiring sodium monitoring
• Patients with high blood pressure or neurological symptoms

Normal sodium levels range from 135–145 mEq/L. Abnormal results could indicate high sodium, which could be the result of dehydration or diabetes insipidus. Low sodium levels could indicate heart failure or liver disease. Discuss the results with your doctor for further evaluation and treatment.

Before the test:

Na+ Test or Serum Sodium Test

Hypernatraemia refers to elevated sodium levels leading to dehydration and neurological symptoms. Hyponatraemia denotes low sodium levels, causing confusion, weakness, and possibly seizures.
