Scrub Typhus Profile - Weil Felix and Scrub Typhus-IgM by EIA - Serum

The Scrub Typhus Profile measures specific antibodies (IgM and IgG) against Orientia tsutsugamushi to diagnose scrub typhus infection.

Doctors may recommend a Scrub Typhus Profile • if you experience symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, rash, or swollen lymph nodes, • if you have been exposed to infected mites, or • if you have a history of travel to areas where scrub typhus is prevalent.

If test results are abnormal or indicate high levels of antibodies to Weil Felix and Scrub Typhus-IgM, it can indicate the presence of scrub typhus infection. However, abnormal results do not necessarily mean you have scrub typhus, and further testing may be required.

During the Scrub Typhus Profile test, a small amount of blood will be drawn from a vein in your arm. The process will take only a few minutes and cause minimal discomfort. Once collected, the serum will be tested for antibodies using the EIA method.

• Fast for a few hours before the test to avoid interference with test results. • Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are taking that might affect the test results and about any other specific requirements that you have.

Other tests that may be ordered alongside the Scrub Typhus Profile include Complete Blood Count (CBC), Urine Culture, and Liver Function Tests (LFTs). These tests can help doctors evaluate the extent of infection and confirm whether any damage has occurred to vital organs.

Weil Felix Test and Scrub Typhus-IgM by EIA - Serum test

Scrub typhus is a bacterial infection caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, which is transmitted through bites of infected mites. Symptoms begin after an incubation period of 6–21 days and include fever, headache, muscle pain, and a characteristic rash. If left untreated, scrub typhus can cause serious damage to vital organs like the heart, lungs, and kidneys.
