Pheochromocytoma Marker Profile-I Test

Pheochromocytoma Marker Profile-I measures the levels of hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline, metanephrine, normetanephrine, and VMA in a 24-hour urine sample.

Your doctor may recommend Pheochromocytoma Marker Profile-I if • you have symptoms such as high blood pressure, sweating, headaches, heart palpitations, or anxiety, which may suggest pheochromocytoma, • you have been diagnosed with pheochromocytoma or related genetic conditions, or • you have family members who have been diagnosed with these conditions.

Elevated levels of the tested hormones can indicate the presence of pheochromocytoma. However, abnormal results do not necessarily mean that you have cancer or any other serious condition.

During the test, you will collect 20 ml of urine in a 24-hour period.

• Avoid certain foods and medications per your doctor's advice before collecting the urine sample. These may include bananas, cheese, coffee, decongestants, and blood pressure medications. • Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.

Your healthcare provider may order additional tests to confirm or rule out a diagnosis of pheochromocytoma or related disorders. These may include imaging tests such as CT (Computerised tomography) scans, plasma metanephrine test, adrenal vein sampling, or genetic testing.

Pheochromocytoma Panel or Pheochromocytoma Hormone Screen

Pheochromocytoma is a rare tumour that grows in the adrenal gland and can cause high blood pressure, headache, sweating, heart palpitations, and anxiety. If left untreated, it can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart disease, and organ damage.

Adrenaline is a hormone and neurotransmitter involved in the body's stress response. Elevated levels of adrenaline can be indicative of pheochromocytoma.

Noradrenaline is another hormone and neurotransmitter involved in the stress response. Elevated levels of noradrenaline can also suggest pheochromocytoma.

Metanephrine is a metabolite of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Elevated levels of metanephrine can be an indicator of pheochromocytoma.

Normetanephrine is a metabolite of adrenaline and noradrenaline similar to metanephrine. Elevated levels of normetanephrine can also suggest pheochromocytoma.

VMA is a metabolite of adrenaline and noradrenaline that is excreted in the urine. Increased VMA levels can be associated with pheochromocytoma.
