Ova and Parasite Examination

This test detects parasites in stool samples. It identifies parasite eggs, larvae, or cysts. This test also helps the doctors in diagnosing and planning of the treatment of such infections that adversely affect your gut health.

This test is primarily done to:

• Diagnose parasitic infections
• Assess symptoms like diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and weight loss

Your doctor may recommend this test to you if you:

• Are experiencing diarrhoea, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting

• Have a suspected parasitic infection based on symptoms

• Abnormal results may indicate worm infestations like roundworms, tapeworms, or protozoal infections.

During this examination:

• You'll receive a container to collect a stool sample.
• Provide a small amount (5gm) of stool in a leak-proof container.
• Samples are analysed by a concentration method to check for parasites and their eggs.

• Avoid touching the inside of the container with your hands.
• Properly seal the container for safe transport to the lab.
