Methylmalonic Acids Quantitative Test - Serum

This test measures the levels of methylmalonic acids in your blood.

• To detect genetic disorders and assess vitamin B-12 deficiency
• To diagnose and monitor genetic disorders that affect metabolism
• To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for these disorders
• To assess vitamin B-12 levels and determine if supplementation is necessary.
• To identify underlying causes for symptoms like anaemia, neurological issues, and developmental delays

Your doctor may recommend this test if you

• have signs or symptoms of a genetic disorder affecting metabolism,
• have a family history of genetic disorders,
• experience symptoms related to vitamin B-12 deficiency, such as fatigue, weakness, tingling in the hands or feet, and memory problems, or
• require monitoring for a known genetic disorder or vitamin B-12 deficiency.

Elevated levels may indicate genetic disorders or vitamin B-12 deficiency.

A small amount of blood (3ml) will be drawn from your vein. The blood sample will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.

• Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking as they might interfere with the test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.
• Fasting is generally not required.
• Follow any specific instructions given by your doctor regarding dietary restrictions or the timing of medication intake.

• Vitamin B-12 Test: Measures the levels of vitamin B-12 in your blood to assess deficiency or absorption issues
