Metanephrine Test - Fractionated Plasma

This test measures the levels of metanephrine and nor-metanephrine in your blood.

• To detect pheochromocytomas, which are rare non-endocrine tumours

• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for these tumours

• To diagnose and monitor other conditions that affect stress hormone levels

Your doctor might recommend this test if you have

• symptoms suggestive of pheochromocytomas such as high blood pressure, headaches, sweating, and palpitations, or

• a family history or genetic risk factors for these tumours.

Elevated levels can indicate the presence of pheochromocytomas or other conditions that affect stress hormone levels.

During this test, a small sample of your blood will be taken for analysis. The sample will be tested using the EIA (Enzyme Immunoassay) method.

• Avoid consuming bananas, pineapple, chocolates, coffee, ice cream, high cereal diet, vanilla, potatoes, and B complex supplements for 48 hours before the collection of the blood sample.

• Your doctor may also ask you to provide a CT scan, ultrasound report, and medication history.

• Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.

Other tests that may be ordered alongside the Metanephrine Test include blood tests such as chromogranin A testing or urine tests for catecholamines and vanillylmandelic acid.
