Overview

B-cells are a type of white blood cell that plays a crucial role in the immune system. These cells are responsible for producing antibodies that help fight off infections. The Leukemia Panel-Ph-like B-ALL, Bone Marrow test is used to diagnose and assess Philadelphia chromosome-like B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-like B-ALL), a high-risk subtype of ALL. By analyzing bone marrow samples, the test detects the BCR-ABL1-like fusion gene, which serves as a prognostic marker. This genetic abnormality indicates a more aggressive disease course and a higher risk of treatment resistance and relapse. Identifying Ph-like B-ALL and its associated markers allows oncologists to tailor treatment strategies to improve outcomes for affected patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Leukaemia Panel - Ph-like B-ALL test detects specific genetic abnormalities, such as the BCR-ABL1 fusion gene, in the bone marrow.
• To diagnose B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (B-ALL) • To determine the prognosis of B-ALL and guide treatment decisions • To identify Philadelphia chromosome-negative patients who may benefit from targeted therapy • To monitor treatment response in patients with Ph-like B-ALL
The Leukaemia Panel - Ph-like B-ALL test is recommended for individuals who • present with symptoms suggestive of B-ALL, such as fatigue, pale skin, frequent infections, and easy bleeding or bruising, • have been diagnosed with B-ALL and require further classification, • require monitoring during and after treatment for B-ALL, or • are suspected to have Philadelphia chromosome-negative B-ALL.
Abnormal results of the Leukaemia Panel - Ph-like B-ALL test may indicate the presence of Philadelphia chromosome-like B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (Ph-like B-ALL).
During the test, a small sample of bone marrow will be collected using a Na-heparin vacutainer. The sample will be sent for processing using the FISH method.
• Discuss with your doctor if you are taking any medications that may interfere with the test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements. • Follow any other instructions provided by your healthcare provider for a successful test.
• Complete Blood Count (CBC) to evaluate blood cell counts and morphology • Flow Cytometry to identify specific markers on cells and aid in diagnosing and subclassifying leukaemia • Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy to assess the extent of involvement and cell morphology in the bone marrow
Ph-like B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia Panel
