Beta Catenin IHC

The beta-catenin IHC test is an immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedure that uses an antibody called beta-catenin to detect the presence of beta-catenin protein in tissue samples.

• Beta-catenin IHC test can be used to guide treatment decisions. For example, patients with colorectal cancer who have high levels of beta-catenin expression may be more likely to benefit from targeted therapy. 
• It can also be used to monitor the response to treatment.

Your doctor may recommend the Beta Catenin test if you:

• Have been diagnosed with cancer where Beta Catenin plays a role
• Need to monitor your response to cancer treatment
• Have symptoms or risk factors that suggest the presence of certain cancers.

Abnormal results may indicate an increased risk or the presence of certain cancers. However, it is important to remember that abnormal results do not necessarily mean you have cancer and should be discussed with your doctor for further evaluation and interpretation.

• A small sample of tissue is typically obtained through a biopsy or surgery.
• The sample is then analysed in a laboratory to measure the levels of Beta Catenin.
• The test is painless, but you may experience discomfort from the procedure used to obtain the tissue sample.

There are no specific preparations required for the Beta Catenin test. However, you should follow any instructions given by your doctor regarding fasting or avoiding certain medications, if applicable.
