Hu Antibody Neuronal Ag in Paraneoplastic syndromes - Serum

This test measures the levels of Hu antibodies in your blood.

• To diagnose paraneoplastic neurologic diseases associated with certain cancers, such as lung, breast, ovarian cancers, thymoma, or Hodgkin lymphoma
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for paraneoplastic neurologic diseases
• To diagnose and monitor related disorders such as autoimmune encephalitis
• To assess the immune response and provide valuable information for treatment decisions

Your doctor may recommend this test if

• you have symptoms suggestive of paraneoplastic neurologic diseases associated with certain cancers such as unexplained neurological symptoms,
• you have been diagnosed with certain cancers like lung, breast, ovarian cancers, thymoma or Hodgkin lymphoma, or
• you require monitoring of treatment effectiveness or evaluation of related disorders like autoimmune encephalitis.

Abnormal results indicate the possibility of paraneoplastic neurologic diseases associated with certain cancers or related disorders such as autoimmune encephalitis.

During this test, a blood sample will be collected from a vein in your arm. The sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

• You may continue with your regular diet and medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.
• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are taking, as they can affect test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.

Some additional blood tests may be ordered to assess specific cancer markers or antibodies associated with autoimmune encephalitis.
