HIV Early Detection Profile-2

The HIV Early Detection Profile-2 detects HIV-2 RNA, HIV-p24 antigen, and HIV-1 proviral DNA to identify early HIV infection in individuals below 2 years of age.

• To detect HIV infection early and treat it effectively • To monitor the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy • To check for drug resistance • To assess HIV transmission risk • To diagnose other conditions related to HIV

Doctors recommend the HIV Early Detection Profile-2 in the following cases: • Diagnosis of HIV in infants below two years of age • Post-exposure prophylaxis after potential exposure to HIV • Prior to conception or during pregnancy for people with known risk factors for HIV • Routine screening for sexually active adults at high risk of contracting HIV • People with symptoms suggestive of acute or chronic HIV infection

Abnormal results can indicate an active or recent infection or a false positive result.

A small amount of blood will be drawn from your arm using a needle. The sample will be processed in the laboratory using advanced techniques.
