HDV-total Antibody by EIA - Serum

This test measures the levels of two types of antibodies, IgM and IgG, produced in response to Hepatitis D Virus.

• To detect a Hepatitis D Virus infection in people with evidence of acute or chronic liver disease, including those who are Hepatitis B Virus positive
• To monitor antiviral therapy effectiveness
• To identify a superinfection

Your physician may recommend this test if you have symptoms of an acute or chronic liver disease, especially if you have a concurrent HBV infection. You may also be advised to take this test if you are undergoing antiviral therapy for HBV or are diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.

Elevated levels of total antibodies can indicate a current or past HDV infection or a superinfection.

During the test, a small amount of blood will be collected from your vein by a qualified medical professional. The sample will be sent to the laboratory for processing and testing.

• Fasting is not necessary.
• Inform your physician of all medications you are taking currently and tell them if you have any specific requirements.
• Inform the medical professional drawing your blood if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood thinners.

• HBV DNA Test: This test measures the presence and quantity of Hepatitis B Virus ribonucleic acid (RNA) in the bloodstream to assess disease activity and treatment effectiveness.
• Liver Function Tests: These blood tests check for enzymes and proteins produced by the liver to evaluate liver health and function.
