Heavy and Trace Metals Profile – 1

This test measures the levels of ten metals and minerals in your body: lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, and arsenic by blood, and aluminium, selenium, copper, zinc, and nickel by serum. 

Here are some reasons for conducting this test:

• To detect heavy metal poisoning
• To monitor levels of heavy metals in people who work with these materials
• To assess treatment effectiveness in patients undergoing chelation therapy
• To diagnose certain genetic disorders or nutritional deficiencies
• To assess the risk of developing certain cancers.

Your doctor may recommend that you take this test if you

• Are exposed to heavy metals at work or in your environment.
• Have symptoms of heavy metal poisoning such as nausea, vomiting or headache.
• Are undergoing chelation therapy for heavy metal toxicity.

Abnormal results could indicate a toxic exposure or deficiency of heavy or trace metals. 

During the test, a blood sample will be drawn from your arm. Serum from a blood sample and urine (from a first-morning void) may be collected for testing levels of trace elements.
