HAV-RNA Detection by PCR - EDTA Blood

This test measures the presence of RNA from the hepatitis A virus (HAV) in the blood.

• To diagnose Hepatitis A infections
• To identify people who have been infected with the virus but do not yet show symptoms
• To monitor treatment for Hepatitis A, including monitoring disease progression and assessing the effectiveness of antiviral therapies

Your doctor might recommend this test if you

• have symptoms such as dark urine, jaundice, fatigue, or loss of appetite that suggest hepatitis A infection,
• have been exposed to someone who has hepatitis A,
• are planning to travel to a region where Hepatitis A is common, or
• are at an increased risk of contracting Hepatitis A due to lifestyle or occupation.

If the test results are positive, it means that you have an active Hepatitis A infection or have had one in the recent past.

The test involves taking a blood sample from your arm using a needle. The sample is collected in an EDTA vacutainer tube. The collected blood sample is then sent to the laboratory for testing.

Inform your doctor if you have any

• bleeding disorders or are currently taking blood-thinning medication,
• allergies or take any medications regularly, and
• specific requirements.

Liver function tests: These tests help evaluate liver function and determine if there are any abnormalities.

Hepatitis A Total antibody test: This test looks for antibodies to the hepatitis A virus in your blood. It can detect whether you have had a Hepatitis A infection or have been vaccinated against it.
