GTT - Gestational 3-Hour (100g) Glucose

This test measures your glucose levels at fasting and at one hour, two hours, and three hours after consuming a high-sugar drink. It helps assess how well your body processes sugar during pregnancy, providing valuable insights into the presence of gestational diabetes.

This test is primarily done to diagnose gestational diabetes in pregnant women. It also helps in:

• Assessing the risk of developing gestational diabetes
• Monitoring blood sugar control in pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes
• Evaluating treatment effectiveness for gestational diabetes

This test is usually recommended if you:

• Have risk factors for gestational diabetes, such as obesity or a family history of diabetes
• Display symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, or unexplained weight loss during pregnancy
• Have had a previous pregnancy with gestational diabetes or large babies

The normal fasting glucose level is below 92 mg/dL, and at two hours, it should be below 153 mg/dL. Abnormal results may indicate gestational diabetes, which can be managed with dietary changes and exercise. Your doctor will interpret the results and guide you accordingly.

• You will be asked to fast overnight before the test.
• A blood sample will be taken to measure your fasting glucose level.
• You will then be given a high-sugar drink to consume within a few minutes.
• Blood samples will be collected at one, two, and three hours after consuming the drink.

• You will be asked to fast for at least 8 hours before the test.
