Fungal Culture and Identification – Urine

This test detects the presence of fungi in urine samples.

• To diagnose fungal infections in the urinary tract • To determine the specific type of fungus causing the infection • To guide appropriate antifungal treatment • To monitor the effectiveness of antifungal therapy • To assess the need for ongoing treatment or follow-up care

This test is recommended for individuals who • Have symptoms of a urinary tract infection that hasn't responded to antibiotics. • Are at a higher risk of developing fungal infections, such as those with weakened immune systems or prolonged antibiotic use. • Need to monitor the effectiveness of antifungal treatment for a urinary tract infection.

Abnormal results may indicate the presence of a fungal infection in the urinary tract.

You will be asked to provide a spot urine sample in a sterile container. The sample will be sent to the laboratory for fungal culture and identification.

• Avoid urinating for at least two hours before collecting the urine sample. • Collect a fresh, random urine sample in a sterile, leak-proof container. • Ensure that your name, specimen type, site, clinical history, and clinician's contact information are properly mentioned on the test request form. Fungal Culture and Identification by MALDITOF (Vitek MS) Urine
