Dopamine ELISA Plasma Test

This test measures the levels of dopamine in your blood plasma.

• To diagnose rare tumours such as pheochromocytoma or neuroblastoma that secrete catecholamines
• To detect conditions that cause elevated dopamine levels, such as Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder

• Your doctor may recommend this test if you have symptoms such as high blood pressure, headaches, sweating, palpitations, anxiety, or tremors.
• The test is also recommended for patients with a family history of pheochromocytoma or neuroblastoma or those undergoing treatment for these tumours.

Elevated levels of dopamine can be indicative of rare catecholamine-secreting tumours such as pheochromocytoma or neuroblastoma.

During the test, a small amount of your blood will be taken. This involves inserting a needle into your vein and collecting a blood sample.

• Before the test, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and any medications that may affect dopamine levels in the body such as amphetamines, cocaine, or levodopa for at least 24–48 hours.
• Follow your doctor's instructions about dietary restrictions.
