DNPH (Dinitro Phenyl Hydralazine) Test, Urine

The DNPH (Dinitro Phenyl Hydralazine) test measures the presence and levels of Dinitro Phenyl Hydralazine in your urine. 

• To diagnose and manage conditions like PKU (phenylketonuria) and MSUD (maple syrup urine disease).
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for PKU and MSUD.
• To assess the risk of developing PKU or MSUD.
• To evaluate an individual's response to dietary changes or medication in PKU or MSUD management.

This test may be recommended if you:

• Have symptoms suggestive of PKU or MSUD such as developmental delays, seizures, or unusual odour in urine or sweat.
• Have a family history of PKU or MSUD.
• Have been previously diagnosed with PKU or MSUD.
• Are undergoing treatment for PKU or MSUD.

If the levels of Dinitro Phenyl Hydralazine in your urine are abnormal, it may indicate the presence or risk of PKU or MSUD. 

For the test, you will be asked to provide a spot urine sample of 10 ml. The sample should be collected in the provided container.

• There are no specific preparations required for this test.
• You can eat and drink as usual before the test.
• If you are on any medications, inform your doctor as they may affect the test results.
