Cyfra (Ca) 21-1, Serum

The Cyfra (Ca) 21-1 Test measures the levels of Cyfra 21-1 protein in your blood.

• To detect and monitor lung cancer

• To assess the effectiveness of lung cancer treatment

• To diagnose and monitor other conditions that affect lung cancer biomarkers

• To evaluate the risk of developing lung cancer in high-risk individuals

The Cyfra (Ca) 21-1 Test may be recommended if you

• have symptoms suggestive of lung cancer, such as persistent cough, chest pain, or difficulty breathing,

• are at high risk for developing lung cancer due to smoking history or occupational exposure, or

• have already been diagnosed with lung cancer and need to monitor your treatment progress.

Elevated levels of Cyfra 21-1 may indicate lung cancer or other lung-related conditions.

During the test, a small sample of your blood will be taken from a vein in your arm. The blood sample will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.

• You can eat and drink as usual.

• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are taking, as they might affect the test results. Also, let them know if you have any specific requirements.

Bronchoscopy: It is a procedure where a thin tube with a camera is inserted through the throat to examine the airways and collect lung tissue samples.
