Your doctor may recommend this test if you • have had unprotected sex with multiple partners • have symptoms suggestive of sexually transmitted infections such as discharge from genitals, painful urination, and abnormal vaginal bleeding, • have a sexual partner with a diagnosed STI (sexually transmitted infection), or • are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

A positive result means that the test has detected the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria in your urine sample.

• You will be given a sterile, leak-proof container to collect a 15 ml sample of urine. • No special preparation is needed before collecting a urine sample.
