Troponin I Test Overview
Troponin-I is a cardiac marker elevated in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction. Highly sensitive assay can detect elevated levels of Troponin-I as early as within 3 hours after the onset of chest pain
An acute myocardial infarction can occur in patients living with underlying heart conditions. A sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy food habits coupled with medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity can predispose you to the risk of developing heart disease. If you complain of symptoms related to a heart attack or other heart conditions, your doctor may check troponin levels in the serum to identify if you have suffered a heart attack or suffer from a cardiac condition.
Other blood tests, such as the CPK isoenzymes test, were previously used by doctors to identify heart attacks, but they are not sensitive enough to detect mild attacks. The troponin test is more sensitive. Here is all you need to know about the test.
