Allergen, Individual-Animal Guinea Pig Epithelium Serum

50+ booked in last 3 days

Overview

This IgE allergy test uses a blood sample to determine if you are allergic to Guinea Pig Epithelia (skin cells/tissue).

Contrary to popular belief, a guinea pig allergy is not caused by their hair. It is usually caused by the proteins found in a guinea pig’s saliva or urine.

When an individual with a Guinea Pig allergy becomes exposed to these allergens, their immune system recognizes the substances as foreign. As a result, it stimulates the plasma cells to produce specific antibodies that combat the invaders. These antibodies cause a chemical known as histamine to be released, triggering an allergic reaction. The allergic reaction may occur within minutes or a few hours after initial exposure to Guinea Pig allergens and may vary from mild to severe depending on the individual.

This test may help individuals determine if they have a Guinea Pig allergy, so they may work with their healthcare provider to develop a management and treatment plan.

Specific IgE measures the concentration of circulating allergen specific IgE for Animal allergen Guinea Pig Epithelium.

This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

Detection of IgE antibodies indicates an increased likelihood of allergy to Guinea Pig Epithelium that may be responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms. A negative result indicates that the symptoms are not due to Guinea Pig Epithelium allergies and other differential diagnoses must be considered.
