AFB-DNA (TB-PCR) Detection – Tissue /Biopsy/Lymph nodes/Endometrium

51+ booked in last 3 days

Overview

The "AFB-DNA (TB-PCR) Detection by Real Time PCR, Reflex to Rifampicin resistance by Ultra CBNAAT (If - MTB Positive) - Tissue / Biopsy / Lymph nodes / Endometrium" test is used to diagnose infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB Complex) or Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM or MOTT) in tissue, biopsy, lymph node, and endometrial samples. The initial AFB-DNA (TB-PCR) Detection by Real Time PCR identifies the presence of Mycobacterial DNA in the sample, enabling healthcare professionals to detect MTB Complex or NTM/MOTT infections. If the result is MTB positive, the reflex test of Rifampicin resistance by Ultra CBNAAT is performed to determine if the MTB strain is resistant to Rifampicin, an important drug used in TB treatment. This comprehensive diagnostic approach allows for rapid and accurate detection of Mycobacterial infections in these clinical specimens, facilitating prompt and appropriate treatment decisions. Early diagnosis through this test is essential for initiating timely and targeted therapy, preventing complications associated with these infections, and ensuring the best possible care for the patient's overall health and well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

This test detects Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) complex DNA or non-tuberculosis bacterial DNA in tissue, biopsy, lymph nodes, or endometrium samples. If the result is MTB positive, the reflex test of Rifampicin resistance by Ultra CBNAAT is performed to determine if the MTB strain is resistant to Rifampicin, an important drug used in TB treatment.

  •  To diagnose infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB Complex) or non-tuberculosis bacteria (NTM or MOTT).
  • To guide treatment decisions for patients with suspected tuberculosis or other bacterial infections.
  • To determine if the MTB detected is resistant to the drug rifampicin.

This test is recommended for individuals who:

  • Have symptoms suggestive of tuberculosis such as persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and weight loss.
  • Have abnormal chest X-ray findings indicating possible tuberculosis. Have a history of exposure to tuberculosis or known contact with a TB-infected individual.
  • Have a positive Mantoux test or interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) indicating latent TB infection.

Abnormal results, i.e., positive results may indicate infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) or non-tuberculosis bacteria (NTM or MOTT). Further testing may be needed to identify the specific bacteria and determine drug resistance.

A tissue, biopsy, lymph node, or endometrium sample will be collected in a sterile leak-proof container for lab testing.

Before this test:

  • Inform your doctor about any ongoing medications, allergies, or medical conditions.
  •  Please reach out to your healthcare provider for any specific requirements.

Additional tests that may be ordered alongside this test include:

  • Acid-fast bacilli smear microscopy: This test examines sputum or other samples for the presence of acid-fast bacteria.
  • Culture and sensitivity testing: This test helps identify the specific bacteria causing the infection and determines their susceptibility to different antibiotics.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly contagious bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It primarily affects the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body, such as the lymph nodes, bones, and kidneys.
