AFB (TB) – Antibiogram for MTb Complex – Capreomycin Drug by MGIT – Pure Growth of MTB Complex

This test determines the susceptibility of the MTb complex to the drug capreomycin.

• This test measures the susceptibility of the TB bacteria to capreomycin, helping determine whether this drug will be effective in treating the TB infection. • It is also helpful in cases where there is resistance to standard TB medications or when a patient has not responded well to initial treatment.

This test is recommended when: • A patient has been diagnosed with TB and requires drug susceptibility testing. • Standard TB medications have not been effective. • There is concern about resistance to TB drugs. • Determining the effectiveness of capreomycin treatment is necessary.

Abnormal results may indicate resistance to capreomycin, which means alternative treatment options need to be explored.

During this test, a sample of TB bacteria is obtained from a pure culture or a specific testing tube which will be sent to the lab for drug susceptibility testing and analysis.
