ACTH Stimulation Test (For Cortisol)

This test evaluates how well your adrenal glands can produce cortisol in response to ACTH. By measuring cortisol levels before and after ACTH administration, this test assesses adrenal function and detects any abnormalities.

This test is done:

• To diagnose adrenal insufficiency or Cushing's syndrome.
• To evaluate pituitary function.
• To monitor treatment effectiveness for certain hormonal conditions.
• To check for dysregulation of stress hormone production.
• To investigate unexplained symptoms like fatigue or weight changes.

This test is recommended if you have:

• Symptoms of adrenal or pituitary disorders like fatigue or weight gain.

• Pituitary tumour.
• Previously diagnosed hormone imbalances needing treatment evaluation

During this test:

• Blood samples are taken at 0, 30, and 60 minutes post-synacthen injection
• Mild discomfort from needle prick
• No dietary restrictions are needed before the test
