Umesh Rai brings over 25 years of diverse professional experience, including more than two decades in the telecom sector with leading groups such as Birla, Tata, and Reliance. In these roles, he held senior positions across marketing, sales, and business transformation, driving large-scale growth, operational excellence, and market leadership.
At Metropolis Healthcare, Umesh has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth journey. As Head of Marketing, he redefined the brand’s positioning by strengthening retail strategy, enhancing digital capabilities, and expanding visibility across domestic and international markets—building deeper consumer trust and stronger market presence. Recognized as an industry innovator, Umesh conceptualized and launched the first-ever brand campaign dedicated to phlebotomists, spotlighting their real-life stories and invaluable role in patient care. The campaign became a benchmark in the diagnostics sector and was widely adopted across the industry. Under his leadership, Metropolis has won several awards for its impactful B2C initiatives, digital marketing excellence, and social media campaigns, further strengthening the brand’s industry presence. He has also represented Metropolis at several industry forums and panel discussions, sharing insights on marketing strategy, digital transformation, and emerging healthcare trends.
In his current role as Senior Vice President and Head of Emerging Business, he leads the creation and expansion of the non-pathology vertical, establishing new revenue streams through Primary Healthcare Centres, Nursing Services, and Consultations, along with body Vitals, Nutrition & Diet. He is also spearheading the scale-up of the Radiology segment with a vision to build a comprehensive diagnostic ecosystem under the Metropolis umbrella.
With a proven ability to blend strategic vision with execution excellence, Umesh continues to drive innovation, business growth, and new ventures at Metropolis. On the academic front, he holds an MBA from the NYSS Institute of Management and Research, Nagpur University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE), Nagpur.
