Zinc Transporter 8 (ZnT8) Antibody
Also known as: Zinc Transporter 8 (ZnT8) antibody, Serum
Overview
Zinc Transporter 8 is a protein highly specific to pancreatic ß cells and is vital for insulin biosynthesis and secretion. ZnT8 antibody is one of the most reliable biomarkers of type 1 DM in both children and adults. ZnT8 along with other autoantibodies (GAD-65, ICA, IA-2, IAA) tend to appear years before actual onset of diabetes 1. Presence of multiple auto antibodies has a very high predictive value.
