Tin Hair Test by ICPMS

This test measures the levels of tin in your hair. 

This test is mainly done to evaluate chronic exposure to tin over a long period. Other reasons include

• To diagnose and monitor toxicity caused by exposure to tin.
• To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for tin toxicity.
• To assess the risk of developing health problems related to long-term exposure to tin.

Your doctor might recommend this test if you have

• A history of tin exposure due to your occupation or environment.
• Symptoms suggestive of tin toxicity such as gastrointestinal issues, headache, and joint pain.
• Been exposed to dietary supplements or cosmetics containing tin.

Elevated levels of tin in hair may indicate chronic exposure to this metal. Abnormal results do not necessarily mean that you have a health problem related to tin toxicity. You should discuss your test results with your doctor, who will interpret them in the context of your medical history and other diagnostic tests.

During this test, you will be asked to provide 1 gram of hair in a leak-proof container.

To prepare for this test, remember the following points:

• You do not need to fast or make any other special preparations for this test.
• You should avoid exposing your hair to environmental sources of tin, such as canned foods or water from pipes made of tin.
• Inform your doctor about any medications, supplements, or cosmetics that you've used recently.
