RSV-IgG Antibody by EIA - Serum

This test measures the levels of specific RSV-IgG antibodies in your blood.

• To detect specific IgG antibodies against the respiratory syncytial virus • To assess the effectiveness of previous RSV vaccinations • To identify patients who might benefit from prophylactic treatment for RSV • To help determine the cause of respiratory infections that might be due to RSV

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have • symptoms of a respiratory infection caused by RSV, • a history of exposure to RSV, • weakened immune system due to an illness or chemical treatments, or • are at high risk of developing severe lung infections due to age or other underlying health conditions.

Elevated levels may indicate recent or past exposure to RSV. Abnormal results do not necessarily mean that you have an active RSV infection or a history of severe illness. Y

A healthcare professional will draw blood from a vein in your arm using a needle and collect it in a tube. They will then send the sample to a laboratory for testing.

Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, herbal supplements, or other treatments you take because they could interfere with the test's accuracy. Also, let them know if you have any specific requirements.

• PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test: It detects signs of the actual virus that causes infection. • Chest X-Ray: It helps detect complications caused by RSV infection, such as pneumonia.

RSV causes respiratory infections such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia in people of all ages. It is especially dangerous for infants, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. RSV spreads through contact with contaminated surfaces or through the air by droplets from coughing and sneezing.
