Ri Antibody, Serum

The Ri Antibody, Serum test measures the levels of anti-Ri antibodies in your blood.

The Ri Antibody, Serum test is performed to

• Diagnose paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS) and monitor its progression. 
• Evaluate the effectiveness of PNS treatment.
• Diagnose or monitor other conditions that affect the limbic, diencephalic, or brainstem regions.

The Ri Antibody, Serum test may be recommended if you have

• Symptoms suggestive of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS), such as limbic dysfunction, diencephalic dysfunction, or brainstem dysfunction.
• A previous diagnosis of PNS.
• A risk of developing PNS due to certain factors or family history.

Elevated levels may indicate the presence of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS). 

This test involves drawing a small sample of blood from a vein in your arm using a needle and a syringe. You may feel a slight pinch as the needle is inserted, but the procedure is generally quick and painless.

No specific preparations such as fasting or dietary restrictions are generally required before this test. Follow any instructions given by your doctor regarding medications and supplements. Paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS) is a condition characterised by dysfunction in the limbic, diencephalic, or brainstem regions of the nervous system. It is often associated with underlying malignancy and can present with a variety of neurological symptoms, such as loss of muscle coordination and fine motor skills, difficulty in walking and maintaining balance, slurred speech, and memory loss.
