Platinum EDTA Whole Blood Test

This test measures the level of platinum in your blood.

• The purpose of performing platinum testing is to identify and monitor exposure to platinum resulting from various factors such as industrial exposure, environmental exposure, and medical treatments involving platinum-based drugs.
• This testing helps in assessing and tracking the levels of ongoing exposure and potential toxicity.

Your doctor might suggest this test, if you have any of the following conditions:

• A previous exposure to platinum
• Suspected platinum poisoning
• Symptoms like breathing difficulties, skin irritation, respiratory issues
• gastrointestinal disturbances, or
• Kidney or lung problems

If your levels are higher than normal, it could indicate potential exposure to platinum from an external source or the presence of metal toxicity. Additional tests may be necessary to validate this diagnosis.

• A sample of around 5 ml of blood will be drawn from a vein in your arm using a needle.
• The tube will then be sent to the laboratory for testing.

You do not need special preparations for this test. However, your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods or supplements 24 hours before the test. Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.
