Overview

Beta-2-Crosslaps (B-2-C or β2-Crosslaps) or CTx-1 (C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen) is the marker of bone resorption, which is the process by which bone tissue is broken down and its components are released into the bloodstream. The Beta-2-Crosslaps CTx-1 plasma test is a blood test that measures the levels of this marker in the blood.

CTx-1 is also a peptide fragment that is released during the breakdown of type I collagen, specifically from the C-terminal end of the collagen molecule. When bone is being resorbed, B-2-C CTx-1 is released into the bloodstream.
