CA 125 IHC

The CA-125 IHC test is a laboratory procedure that uses an antibody called CA-125 to detect the presence of CA-125 protein in tissue samples.

• To aid in the diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for ovarian carcinoma
• To assess the risk of recurrence or spread of ovarian carcinoma
• To evaluate other conditions that affect CA 125 levels

Your doctor may recommend this test if you:

• Show signs or symptoms of ovarian cancer, such as pelvic pain, bloating, or changes in bowel habits
• Have a family history of ovarian cancer
• Require monitoring after treatment for ovarian carcinoma
• Need further evaluation for abnormal CA 125 levels

A positive CA-125 IHC test result means that CA-125 protein was detected in the tissue sample. This may be a sign of ovarian cancer. However, it is important to note that a positive CA-125 IHC test result does not always mean that ovarian cancer is present. Other conditions, such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and pregnancy, can also cause CA-125 levels to be elevated.

• You will provide a tissue sample, usually from a previous biopsy or surgery.
• The sample is processed using special IHC techniques to analyze CA 125. 

No special preparations are typically required for this test. However, it is important to provide your doctor with all relevant clinical and radiological details, along with the original histopathology report and paraffin blocks containing the tissue sample. Follow any specific instructions provided by your doctor.

• Imaging studies such as CT scans or ultrasounds to evaluate the extent of disease and aid in treatment planning
• Blood tests to assess other tumour markers or monitor overall health
• Biopsies or additional pathology tests to confirm diagnosis or assess disease progression
