Cardiovascular disease is the top cause of death for heart attacks and strokes, in asymptomatic people. Risk factors including age, smoking status, hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and HDL cholesterol are used by physicians to identify individuals likely to have an ischemic event & to evaluate cardiovascular risk. The test measures the Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels.

A cholesterol and triglycerides serum test is particularly important to keep a check on cardiovascular diseases.

When you eat, your body turns any calories that aren't immediately used into triglycerides. Triglycerides are accumulated in the fat cells of your body. Hormones then release triglycerides for energy between meals.

If you consume high-carbohydrate diets regularly, your triglyceride levels may be high, which results in a condition known as hypertriglyceridemia. On the other hand, if you have a high level of LDL or bad cholesterol in the body, it results in a condition known as hypercholesterolemia. This causes fats to collect around your arteries and puts you at a higher risk for heart strokes.
