HBV Basal Core Promoter Mutation Test

This test helps to determine whether you have mutations in the hepatitis B virus that may cause it to become more aggressive or treatment-resistant.

• To diagnose an active hepatitis B infection
• To monitor the response to treatment of chronic hepatitis B
• To assess the risk of liver damage caused by chronic HBV infection

Your doctor may recommend this test if you

• have symptoms of acute or chronic hepatitis B infection
• have a family history of chronic hepatitis B infection or liver disease
• have been diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B infection and need to assess the response to treatment
• are at a high risk of developing hepatitis B (such as healthcare workers)

An abnormal result could indicate

• a more aggressive form of HBV infection
• poor response to antiviral treatment
• increased risk of severe liver damage

A lab technician will take your blood sample by drawing 3 ml of serum using a Gel Vacutainer or Plain Sterile Vacutainer. They will send it to a laboratory for testing.

• You may need to fast for at least 6 hours before the test.
• Avoid medications that can interfere with your test results.
• Drink plenty of fluids before providing your sample.
• Follow other instructions provided by your doctor and inform them about any specific requirements you have.

Your doctor may also order an ultrasound or liver biopsy to further evaluate liver damage or inflammation.
