Abnormal results may indicate the presence of a fungal infection.

During the test, a healthcare professional will collect a sample from the affected area, such as skin, nails, hair, or a vaginal swab. The collected sample will be treated with KOH and Calcofluor White stain in the laboratory.

• Depending on the sample required, follow specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider. • For vaginal swabs or discharge, abstain from using any medication or vaginal creams for at least 48 hours before the test. • Inform your doctor about any recent antibiotic use or antifungal treatments. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.

• Fungal culture: This test helps identify the specific type of fungus causing the infection. • Antifungal susceptibility testing: It determines which antifungal medications will be effective against the identified fungus.
