Autoimmune liver disease refers to a group of disorders in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the liver. This results in inflammation and damage to the liver cells, leading to various degrees of liver injury. There are several types of autoimmune liver disease, the most common types are:

  • Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH): It is characterized by inflammation and destruction of liver cells, resulting in cirrhosis, jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain and itchy skin.
  • Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC): it is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation and damage of the small bile ducts within the liver. This results in the obstruction of bile flow and eventually leads to cirrhosis, jaundice and itching.
  • Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC): It is characterized by inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts, both inside and outside the liver, leading to bile duct obstruction, which can result in cirrhosis, jaundice, and itching.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • An autoimmune liver disease profile-4 that includes AMA M2, M2-3E (Bpo), Sp100, PML, gp210, LKM1, LC1, SLA/LP, and Ro52 tests is done to detect the presence of specific antibodies that are associated with different subtypes of autoimmune liver disease.
  • The presence of these antibodies can help healthcare providers to make a more specific diagnosis of a particular subtype of autoimmune liver disease and to monitor the progression of the disease over time.

You should get the Autoimmune Liver Disease Profile -4 done if you observe the following symptoms:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Jaundice
  • Itchy skin
  • Fatigue
  • Patient Preparation: 12-14 hrs fasting required

    Total Tests Included: 9 (AMA M2, M2-3E (Bpo), Sp100, PML, gp210, LKM1, LC1, SLA / LP, Ro52)

The Autoimmune Liver Disease Profile-4 measures the autoantibodies AMA M2, M2-3E (Bpo), Sp100, PML, gp210, LKM1, LC1, SLA / LP, Ro52.

This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

When AMA M2, M2-3E (Bpo), Sp100, PML, gp210, LKM1, LC1, SLA/LP, and Ro52 tests are positive in a patient, it indicates the presence of specific antibodies that are associated with different subtypes of autoimmune liver disease.

  • A positive AMA M2 test indicates the presence of antimitochondrial antibodies (AMA), which are specific for primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC).
  • A positive M2-3E (Bpo) test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the M2-3E isoform of PBC.
  • A positive Sp100 test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the Sp100 protein, which is associated with PBC.
  • A positive PML test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the PML protein, which is associated with PBC.
  • A positive gp210 test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the gp210 protein, which is associated with PBC.
  • A positive LKM1 test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the LKM1 protein, which is associated with autoimmune hepatitis type 2 (AIH-2).
  • A positive LC1 test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the LC1 protein, which is associated with AIH-2.
  • A positive SLA/LP test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the SLA/LP protein, which is associated with PBC.
  • A positive Ro52 test indicates the presence of antibodies specific to the Ro52 protein, which is associated with PBC.
