DA - Adenosine Deaminase - Pleural Fluid

This test measures the level of Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) enzyme activity in the pleural fluid.

• To rule out tuberculosis infection
• To diagnose other inflammatory processes or non-tuberculous conditions causing inflammation in the pleural space
• To guide the treatment of tuberculosis or manage other inflammatory conditions

• If you have symptoms such as cough, chest pain, fever, and weight loss, and your doctor suspects tuberculosis, this test will help confirm the diagnosis.
• Your doctor may recommend this test if you have signs of inflammation in the chest, such as pleurisy or effusion, to identify the underlying cause.

Elevated ADA levels can indicate tuberculosis or other inflammatory conditions in the pleural space.

Your healthcare professional will perform a procedure to collect a sample of fluid from the pleural space using a sterile, leak-proof container. The collected pleural fluid sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis using a biochemical method.
