ADA - Adenosine Deaminase - Ascitic Fluid

The ADA Test measures the levels of Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) enzyme activity in ascitic fluid.

• To rule out tuberculosis and other inflammatory processes
• To assist in diagnosing and monitoring conditions affecting the abdominal cavity • To guide treatment decisions for infectious diseases
• To assess the effectiveness of treatment for tuberculosis • To aid in the diagnosis of certain cancers

This test may be recommended if you have symptoms such as:

• abdominal pain, bloating, or swelling,
• a history of tuberculosis or exposure to someone with tuberculosis,
• a known or suspected infection in the abdominal cavity, 
• a need to monitor your response to treatment for tuberculosis or other inflammatory conditions.

Elevated ADA levels can indicate tuberculosis, peritonitis, pancreatitis, or other inflammatory conditions. Abnormal results do not provide a definitive diagnosis and should be interpreted by your doctor based on your medical history and additional tests.

A healthcare professional will collect a sample of ascitic fluid from you in a sterile container. They will send the sample to the laboratory for testing.

• Complete blood count (CBC) to assess overall health and detect infections
• Biopsy of any suspicious areas or masses found during imaging
