The Taurine test is a simple blood test that involves collecting a small amount of blood from your finger or heel. The blood is collected on special filter paper and dried before sending to the laboratory for analysis.

Taurine Dried Blood Spot Test

Taurine deficiency occurs when there is an inadequate intake of taurine from the diet, a reduced ability to produce taurine in the body, or when the body's ability to absorb or utilise taurine is impaired. Taurine deficiency is most common in infants who are fed formula that is low in taurine. It can also occur in people with certain health conditions, such as kidney disease, liver disease, and cystic fibrosis. Mild deficiency may not cause any symptoms, while severe deficiency can cause a number of problems, including seizures, heart problems, muscle weakness, developmental delays and cognitive decline.
