NMDA Receptor Antibody (NR1) Autoimmune Encephalitis

This test measures the levels of NMDA receptor antibodies in your blood. These antibodies target the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors in your brain. Elevated levels of these antibodies indicate an autoimmune response that can lead to autoimmune encephalitis.

• Used to diagnose Autoimmune Encephalitis: This test helps identify if your symptoms are due to an autoimmune attack on the brain.
• Monitor treatment effectiveness: It can be used to evaluate how well treatment for Autoimmune Encephalitis is working.
• Detect other conditions affecting the brain: NMDA receptor antibodies can also be present in other neurological disorders.

This test may be recommended if you have:

• Symptoms of Autoimmune Encephalitis, such as seizures, memory problems, psychosis, or movement disorders
• A history of autoimmune disorders or a family history of Autoimmune Encephalitis
• Suspicion of other conditions affecting the brain that may involve NMDA receptor antibodies

During this test:

• A small amount of blood will be drawn from your vein
