Malaria Detection By QBC - Blood

The Malaria Test detects the presence of the malaria parasite, specifically the Plasmodium species, in your blood sample.

• To diagnose and monitor malaria infections • To assess the effectiveness of malaria treatment • To confirm cure after treatment • To screen individuals returning from malaria-endemic areas

The Malaria Detection Test is recommended • if you experience symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, body aches, • if you have recently travelled to or reside in an area with a high risk of malaria transmission, or • if you require travel-related clearance or for those with suspected exposure to malaria.

If the results of the Malaria Detection Test are positive or abnormal, it indicates an active malaria infection.

During the test, a small sample of your blood will be collected using a needle and syringe or a finger prick. The collected blood sample will be processed using the Quantitative Buffy Coat (QBC) method.

• No fasting or dietary restrictions are necessary. • Inform your healthcare provider about any medications you may be taking, as certain medications can interfere with the test results. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements. • Follow any other instructions provided by your healthcare provider.

• Complete Blood Count (CBC): This test evaluates various components of your blood, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, providing additional information about your overall health status. • Liver Function Tests: These tests assess liver function and check for any potential liver damage caused by malaria infection.
