CD45/ Leukocyte Common Antigen (LCA) IHC

The CD45 IHC test measures the presence of CD45 protein on the surface of cells. When leukocytes become cancerous, they often continue to express CD45 protein.

The CD45 test serves multiple purposes, including:

• Diagnose leukemias and lymphomas
• Differentiate leukemias and lymphomas from other types of cancer
• Determine the stage of certain types of cancer
• Monitoring the effectiveness of treatment for these conditions
• Assessing other conditions that affect B and T cell activity

The CD45 test is recommended in the following situations:

• Symptoms of leukemia or lymphoma, such as fever, fatigue, and weight loss
• A family history of leukemia or lymphoma
• A history of exposure to certain chemicals, such as benzene or pesticides, which are known risk factors for leukemia or lymphoma

Abnormal results may indicate the presence of lymphoma or leukemia, but further evaluation and additional tests are needed to confirm a diagnosis. It's important to discuss your test results with your doctor for proper interpretation and follow-up.

During the CD45 test:

• A small tissue sample from a previous biopsy (paraffin blocks) is used.
• The sample is sent to the laboratory for testing.
• The laboratory uses histology and immunohistochemistry techniques to evaluate CD45 expression.
• Results are typically available on the fourth day.

• No specific preparation or fasting is required for this test.
