HLA Cross-match by Flow Cytometry

HLA cross-match by flow cytometry measures the surface markers present on your immune cells called human leucocyte antigens (HLA) that help identify self-cells from foreign cells.

• To assess the compatibility of a donor's and recipient's immune system before an organ transplantation • To monitor the effectiveness of immunosuppressive therapy after a transplant • To detect and diagnose autoimmune disorders like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, etc. • To investigate transfusion reactions, when blood products can trigger an adverse immune response

Your doctor may recommend this test if you • are scheduled for an organ transplant, • have symptoms or a family history of autoimmune disorders, or • experience transfusion reactions or complications after blood transfusions.

The results of the HLA cross-match can be either compatible or incompatible between the donor and recipient. If it's incompatible, it may result in the rejection of an organ transplant or immune-mediated complications.

• Blood samples will be collected from both the recipient and donor. • The samples will be processed in the laboratory through flow cytometry.

• Avoid medications that can interfere with your test results. • Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.
