HLA-B*27 PCR

HLA-B27 PCR measures the presence or absence of the HLA-B27 genetic marker. This marker is associated with a higher risk of developing Ankylosing Spondylitis

• To diagnose Ankylosing Spondylitis and other HLA-B*27-associated conditions.
• To understand the risk of developing Ankylosing Spondylitis in individuals with a family history of the disease.
• To assess disease progression and response to treatment in patients already diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis.

• Individuals with symptoms like chronic back and joint pain, stiffness, and limited mobility.
• People who have a family history of Ankylosing Spondylitis.
• Patients already diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis to monitor disease progression and response to treatment.

The presence of HLA-B*27 indicates an increased risk of developing Ankylosing Spondylitis. Abnormal results may warrant further testing, such as imaging studies or consultation with a rheumatologist, to determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.

• A small amount of blood will be drawn from your vein.
• The blood sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

There are no specific preparations required for this test. You can eat and drink normally before the test. However, inform your doctor about any specific requirements or any medications you are taking as certain drugs may interfere with the test results.

• Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP): These blood tests measure inflammation levels and help in monitoring disease activity.
• Imaging Studies: X-rays or MRI scans may be ordered to assess joint damage and inflammation.

HLA-B27 genotyping test or HLA-B27 molecular testing.
